Oops! Bad for Leather!

Don't ask me why, but when she was cleaning the inside of the MH today from our three month excursion, my boss decided to clean the driver and passenger seats with a vacuum cleaner. Both seats are covered with leather, not the thick type, but rather the soft, thin type which I love. However, the roller on the bottom shredded the driver's side and did a little less damage to the passenger seat. I have no explanation as to why she didn't notice the damage after one seat was shredded, but she didn't. As the boss of the family, she can make a mistake and not have to live with it forever. However, we have a conundrum in that we don't know how, or if, the seat fabric can be repaired for a reasonable cost. Does anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions about changing bosses will be ignored!

RE: Replacing Manual Awning with Power Awning

"None would ever be without one again." dang, I didn't know that putting out a manual awning was that big a deal. In fact, I sort of like the fact that their framework, legs, etc. is obviously a lot stronger than the automatic ones just hanging in air. bumpy Amen!

RE: Why Nutro Natural Choice dog food is the best

All I know is that I'm not supposed to eat too much of what is bad for me. But, at my age I've decided to eat whatever I want and if I die from it, then I die. One may say that life is too short to worry about such things, but in my case, life has (so far) lasted a long time and will continue until it doesn't. What does this have to do with dog food you ask? Not a whole lot other than we can become too engrossed with stats, ingredients, etc to the point that only a dietician or DVM MIGHT understand what is "good" and what isn't. For me and my dogs, I will continue to feed the best quality food I can find that is good for them, available wherever I happen to be (the same brand, that is), and doesn't bust the bank. Don't overload me with too much data - just tell me (in the future) what is good for the type of dogs that I have (Sheltie and Golden) and I'll look on with interest at what is good for other dogs as well. After breeding, raising and showing Shelties for over 20 years in Europe and the States, I have a pretty good idea of what is going on but I always want to learn more, if I can. Walter - not only are Shelties and Goldens more popular that GSDs, but are also better. So there!:BDennis - I was agreeing with everything you were saying there . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . until the last sentence.:W:B Walter - I'm sorry, the devil made me do it!:B

RE: Replacing Manual Awning with Power Awning

I like the fact that when it rains, the awning automatically lowers one end 4" and dumps the water and then returns to the normal setting. Our manual awning now has this feature as well. Our '03 didn't, the '08 does. Something new for A&E. gosh, don't know about this automation for a manual awning, but I have been dropping the corner of my patio awning for years. it is not rocket science. bumpy You obviously have the advantage of being around a lot longer than most.;) On my WeatherPro, the only way to safely keep it out all the time (again keeping in mind that the sensor is often useless) is to disable it and tie down the sides. I'd like to do this, but it sits so high in the air as compared with manual awnings that it is impractical to do so.

RE: Replacing Manual Awning with Power Awning

I have a WeatherPro on my MH and had to replace the fabric (after four years) this year. No big thing and unrelated to the mechanical aspects of the awning. I like the fact that when it rains, the awning automatically lowers one end 4" and dumps the water and then returns to the normal setting. However, the wind sensor is often too sensitive or not sensitive enough and that causes problems. I don't recommend an automatic awning and when I replace this one it will be with a non-automatic one.

RE: About to winterize

Winterize???!!!! I don't need to stinkin' winterize!!! OK, I couldn't resist. Karen and Kirk gave you very complete comprehensive instructions. Follow them and you can't go wrong. Failing that, move south and not have that problem any more!

RE: Huge trip Leaving Oct 6th

thanks you..... I'll say a couple in Durango and drive the toad... Now thinking of Durango, Cortez, Moab up to 70. Keep the info coming.... After Reno, going to Chico (redwoods...) Napa... then either close to the coast... but not on 1.... or in the valley to Yosemite area... Let me make a couple more recommendations for you while in SW Colorado area. Again, IMO, stay in Cortez area 2-4 days to visit Mesa Verde NP (a full day trip), then drive your TOAD to 4 Corners (it's not much more than a tourist trap, but it is a tick off your bucket list) and from there go to Monument Valley. This place is breathtaking. The drive through the valley will take anywhere from 2-4 hours depending upon how much you want to get rattled (the road is bumpy), but is worth the effort. After that, back to Cortez area and onward north. You won't regret the extra time you will take to visit these places. There isn't a lot to see on I-70 from Grand Junction into Utah although you may want to take a side trip down UT 24 to visit Goblin Valley SP. It is a unique park with goblin-like rock formations. My guess is that it is about 50-70 miles off I-70 and probably a 1/2 day trip including the driving and visit at the park. That's the extent of my recommendations and hope if you take any of them that you enjoy them as much as I do.

RE: Huge trip Leaving Oct 6th

DW and I are leaving FT. Worth to the west coast on a 3-5 week trip. We will have to be in the desert near Edwards AFB at the end of Oct for an event. Wish I could post the Street & Trips map I am working on, but I will ask questions about it a section of the time. FTW.... to Santa Fe NM... ok. From Santa Fe I propose to go to Beaver UT by way of... Santa Fe, 84 to 160 to Durango, 50 to Montrose then up to I70 west to Utah.. Tell me about this road and such.. 08 Discovery 39R, pulling a toad.... thanks.. more questions to come... IMO, anyone who travels over Red Mountain Pass from Durango to Ouray(550) in a "big rig" (mine is same length as yours), is taking unncecessary chances. That road between Durango and Ouray is not designed for large vehicles. I recommend that you go from Durango to Cortez on 160, then Dolores to Ridgway on 145/62, then pick up 550/50 to Grand Junction and I-70W. I do recommend, however, that you spend at least one extra day in either Durango or Ouray and drive in your TOAD to either town. It is a truly spectacular trip. Just because others have travelled that route in a big rig doesn't make it either right for you or less dangerous. Make no mistake, this is a very dangerous road in a big rig.

RE: Asheville nc campground help

If you like beautiful and don't mind primitive, try Lake Powhatan Rec Area just west of Ashville. The setting is great in the woods and hills and has good access to town. Some of the sites have electric and water, but not many of them.

RE: Onan 5500 Marquee Gold Manual

As noted, there is an adjustment that must be dialed in on the generator depending upon your altitude. I used the 5-10 (K) adjustment when I was in the Rockies.

RE: campgrounds from los angeles to Aspen

Figure out what route you want to take and then go to rvparkreviews.com to figure out which campgrounds meet your requirements.

RE: Getting ready to purchace our Class A need advice.

That's a little over 22% off MSRP. In these days, I'd recommend a minimum of 30%. Even that is possibly a little less than you could get with some serious negotiation.

RE: Why Nutro Natural Choice dog food is the best

Hi Dennis.... thanks for your input. :) Perhaps you will notice that, for the most part, this is a tongue in cheek kinda thread. Walter (DOTLDaddy) loves to talk about dog food for some reason. :h :B :W A bit more seriously now, in my opinion the best food for any pet is whatever good quality food they eat well and thrive on. I choose Innova but I also know that many people choose differently. I knew the tongue in cheek aspect and enjoyed it as I did the one about the best dog. We all know that a GSD is WAY down the list, certainly far behind Shelties and Goldens. I just like to glean whatever info I can about the food subject and then make up my own mind. I do, however, enjoy the give and take that Walter instigates.

RE: What do snowbirds do about mail while they're gone?

for one thing, they do not have the room at their office to store your junk mail. have someone pick it up for you. twelve dollars a month is cheap. If you had some one forward your mail for you and paid to send it it would cost three times that. I used the USPS priority forwarding service for three months this year and was very pleased with it. The only problem is that is forwards EVERYTHING, even the flyers etc. I've also used the FMCA forwarding service and liked it. It filters out whatever type of mail you don't want. Personally however, I prefer the USPS program better.

RE: Why Nutro Natural Choice dog food is the best

:E :E Walter, Walter, Walters.... it's been a while since we've had a dog food war but since you insist. Innova/Evo is the best commercially produced dog food, period. It is far superior to any silly old Nutro I know because Innova is what I feed our dogs. It has taken years of research on my part to come to this conclusion so I am just trying to save you some time by sharing the results with you. Pay attention now! Now that I have educated you I hope you will run, not walk, to your nearest pet supply place and purchase Innova for Gretchen. If she was actually as smart as you claim, she would have already insisted that you feed her Innova. :s In a way I hate to shoot down two of your most recent threads with one post but somebody's gotta do it. :W :B . . Seriously folks.... Nutro isn't bad food, I prefer Innova and I love to give my friend Walter a hard time. http://bestsmileys.com/tongs/20.gif Let me jump back in here. We fed Innova to our Golden for about a year as it was highly recommended by show/breeder people in the breed. Unfortunately, it did not get the results we wanted and we discontinued feeding it. There are those who are fanatical on what to feed their pets and others who will just get Old Roy from Wal Mart because it is a dog food and it is cheap. I tend to research my foods I feed my dog and get what I feel is best for them and, almost as importantly, that is available ANYWHERE I happen to be at the time as I don't want to haul a couple hunder pounds of feed with me. While I don't pretend that the ProPlan I feed my Sheltie and Golden (different types within the band) is the best dog food in the world, I feel it is the best for them using my criteria listed above. If I stayed here at home fulltime where I have access to the brand that I think is best for MY dogs, I would feed them Nutro.

RE: Southern Oregon Coast

I have not stayed there but have driven by there several times and it looks ok. I recommend Bullard Beach or Sunset Bay State Parks. While neither are right on the beach, it is a short walk (Sunset Bay) or drive) Bullard Beach to the ocean. You might also try Winchester Bay (near Reedsport) as it is directly on the water. Midway RV in Coos Bay also is close to the water. Cape Blanco SP near Port Orford is a short walk to the beach. I'm sure there are others but these are the ones I have enjoyed. Midway RV in Coos Bay is 4-5 miles from the ocean. True, but it is just across the street (with some trees as I recall) from the bay leading to the ocean) and is a nice RV park to base from.

RE: Les Swab (swindler)

In my dealings with Les SCHWAB, I've had nothing but excellent service. I recommend them to everyone and agree with what they told you. If you don't agree with them go elsewhere. I would also advise you to be careful when you accuse them of being swindlers. That would be dangerous, if not impossible, to prove and you open yourself to a (justifiable) lawsuit for (at least) defamation.

RE: Why Nutro Natural Choice dog food is the best

Natural Choice is an excellent food, one that I USED to feed my Sheltie and Golden. However, when one is one the road for at least three months at a time in areas where there is no PetSmart, Petco, etc., there is no access to this. So I've had to switch to ProPlan which I used to feed my Shelties years ago. A good quality food, just not as good at Nutro. At least I can buy it in most places and that is most important to me.
